Q: How would you describe your style in 5 words?

A: Singular words commit too much to a singular idea..

I would call myself a funk-punk, a walking collage of contrasts that’s coherently incoherent. A constant mutation of echoed inspirations of empowerment or vulnerability. I like to abandon the concept of gender but evoke masculine or feminine energy depending on my mood.

Q: Which topics do your performances and art pieces revolve around?

A: The need for a mutually beneficial Authenticity between the art world and society. Art is about connection, and I aim to connect to my audience through performance, it is an intimate exchange of raw energy that ignites thoughts and conversation through confrontational sensuality. I was never allowed to feel comfortable in my own skin, I was made to feel other, so whilst I am trying to reach out to other people I am trying to connect with myself. Sounds hippy, but it’s true, trying to turn the trauma into treasure.

Q: Where do you draw your inspirations from?

A: Drug and club culture of the 80s and 90s, I often make a comparison of going to a rave like going to a church (both of which are part of my identity). I want to recreate those sensations of combined consciousness between strangers, through music, dancing, observing, experiencing. It is spiritual, it is meditative, it brings up unspoken truths within the self and the surrounding environment. I want to be that legal high, a piece of living art that enriches your sense of perception with each encounter.

Q: Are there any other upcoming artists you're loving right now?

A: I’m kinda out the loop with the mainstream prodigies of st martins and the likes, but here are some awesome people I follow on insta:

Artists: @christosgkenoudis @maswarn420, @wendysworld_xox, @_knobbler_, @kim_a_tron, @zoeannnot, @jake_d_moore, @emily_surname

Musician: @ajaireland @baby_tap

Drag queens/club kids: @disasterina, @theabhora, @aquaria, @imp_kid, @daniellismore

Q: Who would you love to collaborate with in the future?

A: Toooooo many people! Grace jones, Bjork, Yoko Ono, Grimes, Yayoi Kusama, Fever Ray, Kia Labeija, Baby Tap, Aja, Marco Marco, Die Antwoord…. Any Avant-garde designer or unique creative!

Q: Where do you see yourself in 2 years?

A: Hopefully creating stronger links between my art and fashion, as well as heading down a more educational route. I would love to be an art lecturer, I felt like the system let me down as well as a lot of ‘other’ people, so I want to change it from the inside out. Could you imagine me as a part time lecturer, part time club kid fashionista? I love conflicting contrasts that are unexpectedly compatible.

Q: What do you class as success in the art world and life in general?

A: Artistically: Creating conversation whether it’s positive or negative, the fact that a seed of thought has been planted or an illusion destroyed is exciting and evolutionary. Life in general: being happy, which is rare but achievable, and it can only be obtained through a love of something or someone and a whole lot of struggle. When you have the privilege to dedicate yourself to the things you love and survive, then I think that’s successful…… too philosophical?

Q: How would you encourage those who aren't necessarily comfortable coming out of their comfort zone to do so?

A: You need to learn the art of not giving a fuck, it is the most beautiful lesson! There is no such thing as a failure, only an enrichening lesson to your development as a person. Though I hate gambling, the odds say there is more to gain from a risk into the unknown than to stay put in an eternal stalemate of monotonous mundanity. It’s better to have had a bad trip than to never have tripped at all… (not that I’m condoning drugs)

Q: As a young creative, what motivates you to keep going?

A: ¼ the need for sanity
1/8 spite
1/8 a sadistic test of endurance, how far can I take the absurdity of my concepts and how far can I push my body and comfort zone.
½ to bring beauty and positivity to the world around me.

Q: What advice would you give people trying to make it in the creative world?

A: Don’t give into fear, let it fuel your motivation

Experiment

Be open to compromise and collaboration

Embrace the good the bad and the ugly, they are all useful tools to higher states of creating

Talk and connect with as many people as possible

Be confident yet humble

Stay true to your soul

No matter what, keep at it, bit by bit wherever, whenever you can.

And remember, selling yourself ain’t selling out!
